Javea (in Valencian: Xàbia) is a small port town at the North of Costa Blanca, 90 km from Alicante and 113 km from Valencia. It is situated in a bay that is bordered by two rocky capes. Beautiful and friendly tourist place, famous for many European nations, between Saint Antonio and the cape La Nau and surrounded by the imposing and wonderful mountain massif Montgó (753m). The clean and pleasant Mediterranean Sea surrounds the coast of Javea on a length of 25 km with sandy beaches, bays and rocky cliffs. The Old Town has a very interesting historical city center with artistic facades and Gothic windows, smith-iron balconies and window grids as well as skilfully formed inner courtyards are worth to be visited. The church Saint Bartolomäus is built in the Late-Gothic style that you can recognise by the different elements and constructions. “Aduanas del Mar” is the popular harbour quarter and the perfect meeting place for young and old. The inspection of the church “Santa Maria de Loreto” is a must for all visitors. It was built in the 60s and shows an especially impressive architecture. At the seafront “El Arenal” there is the centre of shops, restaurants, bars and evening markets.
In the nature reserve of the Montgó (Les Planes) you can admire the old windmills.
The Old Town is located three kilometers inland and with its narrow streets, whitewashed houses and medieval palaces it is absolutely worth a visit. The village is dominated by the fortified church of “San Bartolome”, built in the 14th to 16th Century.
The port is located below the rocky slopes of the Cape San Antonio in a very nice natural setting. It consists of a fishing port and a marina, which has more than 350 berths. From here you can go by boat to Denia, Calpe and Altea. Behind the port there is the old fishing village with a typical Mediterranean atmosphere.
The beautiful flat sandy beach “Playa del Arenal” is located in the center of the bay and it is the tourist center of Javea. It is surrounded by a beach promenade with a variety of restaurants, bars and shops. In the summer season the Arenal is the heart of the lively nightlife of Javea.
